Nepal Qualifies for ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier for the First Time

Nepal has qualified for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier with one game still to play.

On Sunday, Nepal defeated the United Arab Emirates (UAE) by 5 wickets in their first match of the Super Three stage. With this win, both Nepal and Thailand have booked their spots in the Global Qualifier from the Asia region.

Nepal will play their final match of the tournament against Thailand on Tuesday, but it will just be a practice game as both teams have already qualified.

This is the first time Nepal has reached the Global Qualifier. In that stage, 10 teams will compete, and the top 4 teams will qualify for the Women’s T20 World Cup.

In Sunday’s match, UAE set a target of 115 runs. Nepal chased it down with three balls to spare. Captain Indu Barma led the team with an unbeaten 30 runs off 28 balls, hitting two fours.

Rubina Chhetri Belbase scored 23 runs off 18 balls with three boundaries. Opener Samjhana Khadka made 21, while Puja Mahato added 13 runs. Rubi Poddar remained not out on 6.

For UAE, Mechell Botha, Suraksha Kotte, Vaishnave Mahesh, and Esha Oza each took one wicket.

Earlier in the match, UAE batted first after winning the toss and scored 114 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in their 20 overs at the Terdthai Cricket Ground in Bangkok.

UAE captain Esha Oza was the top scorer with 39 runs off 39 balls, including two fours and a six. Opener Theertha Satish scored 21 runs from 32 balls. They shared a 45-run partnership for the first wicket.

Heena Hotchandani made 20 and Lavanya Keny scored 12 runs.

Nepal’s Manisha Upadhyay took the most wickets—4 for just 20 runs in 4 overs. Kabita Kunwar took 2 wickets and Rajmati Airee claimed 1.
