Nepal to Host First-Ever Women’s Beach Rugby Tournament on Olympic Day 2025

For the first time in Nepal, a women’s beach rugby tournament will be organized to celebrate International Olympic Day 2025.

The event, titled First Bagmati Women’s Beach Rugby Tournament 2025, will take place on Ashar 8 and 9 (June 22–23) at Sukute Beach in Sindhupalchok. It is being organized by the Nepal Rugby Association, with support from the Bagmati Province Sports Development Council, National Sports Council, and Bagmati Province Rugby Association.

A total of six women’s teams will take part:

  • Three provincial teams: Karnali, Bagmati, and Madhesh
  • Three national-level clubs: Gorkhali Rugby Club, Nepal Women’s Rugby Club, and Sindhupalchok Rugby Club

The tournament will follow a league format, where all teams will compete against each other.

The estimated budget for the event is Rs. 1.3 million. Organizers will cover travel and hotel accommodations for all participating teams from Kathmandu to Sukute.

Prizes and Awards:

  • Winners will receive a trophy, medals, and certificates
  • Runners-up will get medals and certificates
  • Both teams will also receive a fun package
  • One best player and one emerging player will be awarded with trophies and honored
  • All other participants will receive certificates

As part of Asia Rugby’s campaign “Building a Greener Future Through Rugby and Sustainability”, the “A Try, A Tree” program will also be continued during the event.

The tournament’s main theme is:


“Rugby Fun with Sun, Sand, and Waves”,


highlighting both the excitement of beach rugby and raising awareness about environmental sustainability.
