Nepal’s first online news portal, Nepalnews.com, has returned to publication under new ownership, marking a fresh start for the platform. The team expressed excitement about resuming operations and emphasized their commitment to practicing modern, credible journalism despite the economic challenges facing the media industry.

Nepalnews.com aims to stand out in a media environment where political polarization, corruption, and sensationalism often overshadow factual reporting. With social media gaining more influence than traditional journalism, issues like misinformation, clickbait headlines, and viral rumors are spreading rapidly. Historically, Nepalnews was the country’s first online portal, established in 2000. It was shut down in 2015 by Mercantile Communications due to financial losses and disputes with journalists over job security. At the time, 18 employees lost their jobs, though TV, FM, and archived content continued. The closure sparked debates about management practices and the role of media in Nepal, with the Federation of Nepali Journalists stepping in to mediate.

With its return, Nepalnews hopes to regain its position as a trusted news source while introducing innovative approaches in both content and digital strategy. The portal invites readers, advertisers, and partners to join in this renewed journey.
