Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s plan to reoccupy Gaza has faced strong rejection from key leaders, including the Israeli army chief. During a recent security cabinet meeting, many opposed the proposal, with the army chief even threatening to resign if it is carried out.
The plan has also raised fears among families of prisoners still awaiting release, as 20 out of 50 prisoners remain detained.
Several countries near Israel have also spoken out against Netanyahu’s idea, supporting efforts to end the war and deliver humanitarian aid in Gaza instead.
Just a day before the proposal, dozens of former Israeli military officials urged U.S. President Donald Trump to work for a ceasefire. Former intelligence chief Ami Ayalon called the use of the army in this way “unfortunate,” showing clear opposition to Netanyahu’s plan.
