There was vandalism in the office of Tribhuvan University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Khadga KC.
Leaders and members of the Nepal Student Union (NSU), which is affiliated with the Nepali Congress, vandalized his office on Wednesday. They also locked the Rector’s Office.
The protest was led by student union presidents elected from Sanothimi, Bhaktapur, Patan, and Saraswati campuses.
They reportedly caused damage and locked the offices to pressure the university into admitting new students during the exam period, which goes against the university’s academic calendar. According to Tribhuvan University’s calendar, first-year bachelor’s exams must be conducted within Ashar (mid-June to mid-July).
The university had already opened the exam form process, after which admissions are usually closed. However, NSU leaders demanded admissions be reopened and protested when their demand was not fulfilled.
Earlier, NSU leaders had issued a joint statement demanding that admissions be opened, saying they were paused during the student union elections and should now continue.
