A passenger plane has gone missing in eastern Russia. The aircraft, carrying 49 people, disappeared near the remote city of Tynda in the Amur region, which is close to the border with China.
According to CNN, the AN-24 aircraft operated by Angara Airlines lost contact while flying toward Tynda.
Search and rescue operations are underway. The region’s governor, Vasily Orlov, said the plane had 43 passengers, including five children, and six crew members. However, Russia’s emergency ministry reported that about 40 people were on board.
Governor Orlov said all available rescue teams, security forces, and resources have been mobilized for the search.
Bad weather and the difficult terrain are making the search more challenging.
