A 35-year-old man died early Thursday morning after being hit by a vehicle on the East-West Highway in the Bagmati section of Chandrapur-1, Rautahat. The incident happened around 4 or 5 AM.
The victim, Buddha Jimba of Mangalpur, Chandrapur-1, was struck by a vehicle on the highway shortly after leaving his home. He died at the scene.
Following the accident, the vehicle that hit him fled. Police are currently investigating what type of vehicle it was and are checking CCTV footage to find it.
After the news of the accident, relatives of the deceased and local residents blocked the East-West Highway. This protest has caused massive traffic jams for about five hours, leaving many vehicles stuck on the road. Travelers are facing significant hardship due to the intense heat.
Police from the Chandranigahapur Area Police Office arrived quickly after the accident. However, locals prevented them from moving the body as they demanded their concerns be addressed.
DSP Rajkumar Rai of the Area Police Office stated that efforts are underway to address the demands of the victim’s family and clear the highway.
