The Armed Police Force has seized a truck carrying 783 kilograms of marijuana from Sunsari and taken two people into custody.
A joint team from the No. 1 Baraha Battalion Headquarters in Sunsari and the Security Base in Dharan stopped the truck on Wednesday. The truck, along with the driver and co-driver, was taken under control.
The truck, which had no number plate at the time, was stopped for checking on the Koshi Highway at Nishan Danda, Dharan-13. During the search, police found a number plate reading “Na 7 Kha 281” and discovered a large quantity of marijuana.
The driver, 31-year-old Manoj Pariyar from Sunsari, and the co-driver, 18-year-old Akash Rai from Dhankuta, have been taken into custody.
DSP Shailendra Thapa, spokesperson for the Armed Police Force, said the two men, along with the truck and marijuana, were handed over to the Sunsari District Police Office on Wednesday night for further investigation.
Earlier on Wednesday morning, the Armed Police Disaster Management Base in Dhankuta had also seized a car carrying 421 kilograms of marijuana.
