A flood in the Lende Khola area near the Nepal-China border has forced a complete shutdown of 250 megawatts of electricity production from hydropower projects in Rasuwa and Nuwakot.
According to the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), the flood has damaged the Rasuwagadhi Hydropower Project, Trishuli 3A, Chilime Hydropower, and Beni Hydropower.
Rasuwa Gadhi suffered the most damage. The flood entered the power station through the water outlet tunnel, flooding the powerhouse and damaging other structures including the headbox, said Station Head Santosh Adhikari.
The Rasuwagadhi project generates 111 MW, Trishuli 3A produces 60 MW, Chilime 21 MW, and Beni 19 MW.
