Prithvi Man Gurung, a leader of the Nepali Congress and former chief of Gandaki Province, has passed away. He died at his home this morning at 8 AM (July 26).
Gurung was also the former president of Nepali Congress Chitwan. He was appointed as the chief of Gandaki Province on Shrawan 12, 2078 BS (27 July, 2021).
Originally from Machhapuchhre Rural Municipality in Kaski, he had later moved to Chitwan and was living in Bharatpur Metropolitan City-26. He also served as the chairman of the land commission in Nawalparasi.
According to Congress central member Tek Prasad Gurung, Prithvi Man was active in democratic politics for decades. During the split of the Nepali Congress, he led the district committee of the Democratic Congress.
He had been battling cancer for a long time. Gurung was a member of the movement committee during the 2046 BS (1989 AD) People’s Movement and held several positions within the party.
He was 76 years old. Among his two sons, the elder had already passed away. His younger son, who lives abroad, and his wife survive him. His final rites will be performed on Sunday after his son returns.
Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba expressed sorrow over Gurung’s death, saying the party has lost a senior and experienced leader.
