Raghu Sharma Replaces Injured Vignesh Puthur in Mumbai Indians Squad for IPL 2025

Mumbai Indians have announced the signing of leg-spinner Raghu Sharma as a replacement for injured pacer Vignesh Puthur for the remainder of the IPL 2025 season.

The 31-year-old Sharma, a right-arm leg-break bowler from Jalandhar, brings solid domestic experience to the squad. He has played for Punjab and Puducherry in India’s domestic circuit and has an impressive first-class record with 57 wickets in 11 matches at an average of 19.59, including best figures of 7/56. He has also picked up 14 wickets in 9 List A games and 3 wickets in 3 T20s.

This marks Sharma’s first-ever IPL appearance, as he joins the five-time champions at his base price of ₹30 lakh from the RAPP (Registered Available Player Pool) list.

Vignesh’s Promising Start Cut Short

The injury to Vignesh Puthur comes as a blow to Mumbai Indians just as the 22-year-old was beginning to make an impression in his debut season. Vignesh made headlines after taking three wickets in his very first match against Chennai Super Kings earlier this year. He played a total of five games, collecting six wickets, before being ruled out due to an undisclosed injury.

Despite the setback, Vignesh will remain with the squad and continue his rehabilitation under the guidance of MI’s medical and strength & conditioning staff. The franchise has shown strong support for the young pacer, stating their commitment to his recovery and long-term development.

Mumbai Indians Back in Form

After a shaky start to the season—winning just one of their first five games—Mumbai Indians have made a stunning comeback with five consecutive wins. Historically, this kind of momentum has worked in their favor. In four out of five past IPL seasons where MI have won five in a row, they have gone on to lift the trophy.

The addition of Raghu Sharma not only strengthens Mumbai’s spin options but also reflects their confidence in domestic talent as they push for another title run.
