Rain Could Crash RCB vs KKR Clash in Bengaluru – Playoff Hopes on the Line

The big IPL 2025 showdown between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) this Saturday in Bengaluru might get washed out — thanks to some pretty moody skies.

Forecasts are grim.
AccuWeather’s calling for thunderstorms from afternoon till night, and India’s own Meteorological Department is also warning of rain or thundershowers in the evening. Basically: bring an umbrella… or maybe a boat.

The weather’s already started messing with prep.

  • RCB trained early, from 2 to 5 PM, just to dodge the clouds.
  • KKR hit the nets around 5 PM but wrapped it up in just 90 minutes.
RCB’s Director of Cricket, Mo Bobat, said they had to plan around the forecast: “Once it’s matchday, you can’t control the weather. We just stay calm and let the players do their thing.”

Bengaluru’s been wet all week. Friday night saw rain from 9:30 PM till late, same as the night before. And with more rain expected, this Saturday’s match could be heavily delayed — or not happen at all.

What happens if it’s a washout?

  • KKR’s playoff dream takes a major hit. They’ve got 11 points and only two games left. If this one gets rained off, and points are split, they max out at 14 points — not enough to qualify.
  • KKR already lost one match earlier this season to rain (vs Punjab Kings), and another no-result could knock them out for good.

Meanwhile, RCB are chillin’. Even if Saturday’s game is abandoned, they’re still comfortably in the playoff mix and can still push for a top-two finish. Earlier this season, their match vs Punjab at the same venue was reduced to 14 overs due to rain — so they’re used to this kind of chaos.

Thankfully, Chinnaswamy Stadium’s drainage game is strong, so if the rain eases, there’s still hope for play.

But Bengaluru’s not the only city on edge.

  • Mumbai (MI vs DC on May 21) has already seen surprise showers.
  • Bengaluru is hosting another match on May 23 (RCB vs SRH).
  • And Kolkata, set to host Qualifier 2 and the final on June 3, usually catches the monsoon early — just in time for the biggest games of the season.

Rain is here, and it’s ready to shake things up. Whether it helps or haunts your favorite team? That’s still up in the air — literally.
