A rare one-horned rhinoceros has been found dead in Chitwan National Park.
According to officials, the female rhino was discovered on Tuesday morning at the bank of the Ban Khola in the buffer zone area. The park has not given an official statement about the cause of death.
Earlier, on August 25, the same rhino had been rescued after getting stuck in a swamp near Dhaka Gundrahi Community Forest, about 1.5 km northwest of Lamichaur Army Post. It was later released, but on Tuesday it was found dead about 500 meters west of that spot.
This is the second rhino death in the park in the current fiscal year. On August 6, another rhino died after being trapped in an electric fence set up by a farmer in Madi-2, Bhairavpur.
Last fiscal year, 28 rhinos died in the park due to various reasons. The government is planning to conduct a rhino census within this year to determine their exact population.
