Rautahat fair clash leaves mayor and others injured

A clash broke out in Dewahi Gonahi Municipality of Rautahat over the inauguration of a fair, leaving Mayor Prem Lal Sah Kanu and four others injured.

The incident happened this afternoon at the Krishna Temple in Dewahi Gonahi -9 during the Shree Krishna Janmashtami fair. Two groups clashed over how the fair should be inaugurated.

According to DSP Rajan Karki of Garuda Police, the injured include Mayor Kanu, Ram Bikash Sah of Dewahi Gonahi -9, Shyam Binay Sah of the same area, and police personnel Jagdish Ray Yadav and Dhan Sundar Thakur. Mayor Kanu received 17 stitches on his head, Yadav got 5 stitches, and Thakur got 4 stitches. The other injured are being treated at Better Nepal Hospital in Garuda.

Police have arrested three people for their involvement in the clash. They are identified as Radha Mohan Sah (around 35–40), Vinod Sah (around 35–40), and Ritik Sah (around 21–22), all from Devaibigoinahi-9.

The dispute began after Mayor Kanu’s side wanted him to cut the ribbon to open the fair, while the other side insisted the fair should run without a formal inauguration. This disagreement turned into a violent clash.
