Suryanarayan Shahi, the chief of the endangered Raute community who live a nomadic life in the forest, has passed away. He died on Monday night around 9:30 PM.
Lal Bahadur Khatri, a teacher working with the organization SOSEC Nepal, said that Suryanarayan died due to excessive alcohol consumption.
Suryanarayan became the chief of the community in Jestha 2072 (May–June 2015). Currently, the Raute community is living in two separate groups. He was leading one group in Sotkhola, Barahatal Rural Municipality–8, Surkhet. The other group, led by two chiefs, is living in Karekhola, Birendranagar–13.
