Nepal national women’s football team striker Sabitra Bhandari, also known as Samba, has signed with Wellington Phoenix Football Club in New Zealand.
The club officially announced on Thursday that Sabitra has signed a two-year contract.
Wellington Phoenix is based in Wellington city and competes in Australia’s top-tier A-League. This means Sabitra will now play in one of the highest-level women’s football leagues in the region. Australian women’s football is considered among the best in the world.
Sabitra recently captained Nepal in the Women’s Asian Cup qualifiers. She has also played professional football in India, Israel, and France.
Speaking on the club’s official social media, Sabitra said, “I am very happy. I want to score many goals and make the fans proud.”
