Syangja youth killed over motorcycle noise, 8 arrested

A young man has been killed in Syangja after a dispute over the loud noise of a motorcycle. Police have arrested eight people in connection with the incident.

The incident took place around 11 pm on August 23 in Waling-5, Jarkot. The victim, 32-year-old Dhal Bahadur Thapa, was beaten while riding his motorcycle in the village. Earlier that day, a volleyball match had been held in the same place, drawing many youths.

Thapa had stayed late meeting friends, and after a minor dispute during the game, youths from Chapakot were also called. This led to a clash between two groups. Police said the group from Chapakot accused Thapa of making his motorcycle too loud and attacked him brutally.

Thapa was seriously injured and taken to Gandaki Medical College in Pokhara. However, he died the next morning, August 24, during treatment.

The District Police Office formed a special team to investigate the case and arrested eight people from different places. According to SP Dadhiram Neupane, police had deployed plainclothes officers the same night of the incident.

Those arrested are 22-year-old Sijan Thapa, 24-year-old Anil Shahi Thakuri, 20-year-old Bibek Manandhar, 18-year-old Badal Bik, 23-year-old Guru Prasad (Gore) Lamsal, 17-year-old Aryan Chhetri, 23-year-old Bishwas Wagle, and 22-year-old Nishan Thapa.

Police have registered a murder case against them, and the Syangja District Court has granted a 10-day extension for further investigation starting from August 24.
