Two people in Parsa have died after showing symptoms of diarrhea.

Dr. Uday Narayan Singh, spokesperson of Narayani Hospital in Birgunj, said one patient died on Saturday while receiving treatment. He added that the patient passed away before tests could confirm if it was caused by cholera.

Another patient being treated at Birgunj Health Care died on Friday. The health office said it is not yet clear whether the death was caused by cholera or not.

Dedicated beds for treatment

The District Health Crisis Management Committee has directed all hospitals in the district to set up dedicated beds for treating patients with cholera and severe diarrhea.

Acting Chief District Officer Suman Kumar Karki said that in case cholera spreads, hospitals must reserve enough beds and manage staff to treat patients properly.

The committee also decided to start awareness programs at households in coordination with all relevant agencies to prevent diarrhea and cholera.

To promote cleanliness, health workers, volunteers, and other organizations will be actively involved under the guidance of Birgunj Metropolitan City.

Cholera is caused by the Vibrio cholerae bacteria. To prevent its spread, security agencies, local governments, political parties, professional associations, Nepal Red Cross, and NGOs will coordinate to provide necessary supplies and run public awareness campaigns.
