The United States has canceled visas of more than 6,000 international students.

According to the US State Department, cited by BBC, the visas were revoked because the students broke American laws or stayed longer than allowed.

Many of the cases were related to drunk driving, theft, or activities linked to supporting terrorism. Officials said this action is part of the Trump administration’s strict immigration policies, which also apply to international students.

However, the State Department did not clearly explain what it meant by “supporting terrorism.”

Some students who joined pro-Palestinian demonstrations were also targeted, with the Trump administration accusing them of anti-Jewish behavior.

Out of the 6,000 cases, about 4,000 visas were canceled for breaking US laws, while 200 to 300 visas were revoked under the Immigration and Nationality Act section 3(b) for terrorism-related reasons.
