India’s star cricketer and former captain Virat Kohli is reportedly thinking about retiring from Test cricket.
This news comes just days after Rohit Sharma suddenly announced his retirement from Test matches. According to The Indian Express, Kohli has informed the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) about his thoughts on retiring, but only in an early, informal way.
However, the board and selectors have asked him to reconsider. So far, Kohli has not made any official statement on the matter.
Quoting a source, The Indian Express reported, “He has made up his mind and already informed the board. But since an important Test series against England is coming up, the BCCI has asked him to think again.”
The report also says that Kohli started thinking about his Test future after the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. In that series, he scored only 190 runs in 9 innings, with an average of 23.75. He was dismissed 8 times by deliveries on the off-side.
After the 2024 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, he hinted that it might have been his last tour in Australia.
Kohli made his Test debut in 2011 and has played 123 matches so far, scoring 9,230 runs at an average of 46.85. If he retires from Test cricket, he will only continue playing One Day Internationals (ODIs).
