Rain has continued in Kathmandu Valley since Wednesday afternoon and lasted until Thursday morning. The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology said the rainfall is likely to continue until Friday.

Authorities have warned people to remain cautious as rivers in the valley are swelling and some areas are already facing floods.

Meteorologist Saroj Poudel said Budhanilkantha recorded the highest rainfall in the past 12 hours with 59 millimeters, while Kakani saw 50.4 millimeters. Most parts of Kathmandu experienced rain during this period.

Although continuous rainfall is less likely, showers may occur from time to time until Friday. Due to the influence of monsoon winds from the Bay of Bengal, moderate to heavy rain is expected in different parts of the country.

According to the weather office, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim provinces will remain mostly cloudy, while other regions will see partial clouds. Moderate rain is expected in many hill areas of these provinces, with chances of heavy rain in some parts of Lumbini’s Terai, Sudurpaschim, and the hills of Karnali.

At night, the sky will stay mostly cloudy across the country. Many hill areas and a few other regions may see moderate rain, while heavy rain is possible in Gandaki, Karnali, Sudurpaschim, Lumbini, and parts of Koshi province.

The weather office said the monsoon trough is currently close to its normal position, and monsoon winds from the Bay of Bengal have become stronger, bringing more moisture into Nepal.
