Much of Nepal is experiencing hot and humid conditions today, with afternoon showers and thunderstorms expected in several parts of the country as monsoon activity continues.
According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM), temperatures began in the low 20s °C this morning, with cloudy skies over most areas. By midday, temperatures have risen sharply, reaching up to 34°C in the Terai and mid-hill regions.
Afternoon showers and thunderstorms are forecasted in parts of Koshi, Bagmati, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces, particularly between 2 PM and 6 PM. While not all areas will see rain, conditions remain favorable for localised downpours, especially in the western and central hills.
Residents are advised to carry rain protection when going out and avoid exposed areas during lightning or heavy winds. DHM has also urged people living near hillsides or riverbanks to remain cautious, as the risk of landslides and localized flooding remains during peak monsoon days.
Nepal is currently in the most active phase of the monsoon. Meteorologists have predicted above-average rainfall this season, with the possibility of heavy showers in short periods, which could lead to sudden hazards.
The monsoon is expected to remain active throughout the weekend, bringing continued rain chances, especially in the hilly and mountainous regions.
