A wild elephant has started entering Jai-Parsiya village in Laljhadi Rural Municipality-4 of Kanchanpur during the daytime, causing fear among locals.
On Tuesday afternoon, a male adult elephant was seen walking through the roads and farmlands in the village. Locals chased it away toward Shuklaphanta National Park by making noise, but residents say they still fear the elephant may return.
“The elephant damages crops every year, and last year it even killed one person,” said local resident Laxman Rana. “We are scared and have requested the concerned authorities to take action to control the elephant.”
According to Rural Municipality Chairperson Nirmal Rana, wild elephants enter Jai-Parsiya village every year, destroying crops and sometimes causing loss of life. He said the elephants come from the Laljhadi Conservation Area.
Karunakar Joshi, head of the Laljhadi Sub-Division Forest Office, said that five wild elephants live in the conservation area. The elephants often move between the forest and nearby settlements. He has urged locals to stay alert, as the elephants can enter the village at any time.
