A total of 471 prisoners have escaped from Sindhuli prison.
According to District Police Chief SP Laldhwaj Subedi, the prisoners serving different sentences managed to flee.
The escape happened after a fire and protests inside the prison. Although the Nepal Army and Police were deployed, locals surrounded the police, making it difficult for them to use force.
Police said some warning shots were fired to bring the situation under control.
