Punjab Kings Secure Spot in IPL Qualifier 1 After Beating Mumbai Indians

Punjab Kings have confirmed their place in Qualifier 1 of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

On Monday, Punjab defeated Mumbai Indians by 7 wickets. With this win, Punjab has secured a top-two finish in the points table this season.

Punjab now sits at the top of the table with 19 points. They will play Qualifier 1 on May 29. Meanwhile, Mumbai, who finished fourth, will have to play the Eliminator on May 30.

Mumbai earned only 16 points from 14 matches. The match was played at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, where Punjab won the toss and chose to bowl first.

Mumbai scored 184 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in 20 overs. Chasing the target of 185, Punjab reached the score in 18.3 overs, losing only 3 wickets.

Captain Shreyas Iyer sealed the win with a six off Trent Boult. He remained not out on 26 runs from 16 balls. Josh Inglis scored 73 runs and Priyansh Arya made 62, both hitting half-centuries and sharing a century partnership.

Mitchell Santner took 2 wickets for Mumbai, and Jasprit Bumrah claimed 1.

For Mumbai, Suryakumar Yadav was the top scorer with 57 runs off 39 balls, hitting 6 fours and 2 sixes. No other batter could cross 30 runs.

Punjab’s Arshdeep Singh, Marco Jansen, and Vijaykumar Vyshak each took 2 wickets.
