Air India Flight Crashes in Residential Area, Injures Dozens
Air India’s flight AI 171 crashed in a residential area, causing damage and injuries on the ground as well.
The plane had taken off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport and crashed just moments later in the Meghani Nagar area. It reportedly fell on a hostel where doctors were staying.
The flight was headed from Ahmedabad, India to Gatwick Airport in London, UK. According to Indian media, apart from passengers on board, 15 doctors were also injured and taken to the hospital.
ABP News, quoting a local councillor, reported that around 20 to 25 people were affected at the crash site.
There were 169 Indian citizens on the plane, along with 53 British, 7 Portuguese, and 1 Canadian passenger.
