A Bangladesh Air Force training jet crashed in the Milestone College area of Uttara, Dhaka, on Monday afternoon, leaving one person dead and several others injured. The crash sent shockwaves through the busy residential area as black smoke and debris filled the sky shortly after takeoff.

The F-7 BGI aircraft had departed at 1:06 PM, according to a statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). Moments later, the plane went down under still-unclear circumstances, triggering an immediate emergency response.

Eyewitnesses reported a loud explosion, followed by the sight of flaming wreckage near the college compound. Videos of the incident have surfaced on social media, although their authenticity has not been officially verified.

By 2 PM, authorities confirmed that one person had died in the crash. Four others, seriously injured, were quickly evacuated to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) by an Air Force helicopter.

In response, two platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) were deployed to support rescue operations and secure the crash site. Meanwhile, BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman called on party affiliates—Jubo Dal, Chhatra Dal, Swechchhasebak Dal, and BNP’s health unit—to rush to the scene and assist victims.

Officials at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport confirmed the crash but said it was too early to determine the cause. An investigation is expected to follow, as questions arise about what led to the fatal failure of the military jet.

This incident marks another in a series of challenges for Bangladesh’s defense aviation, renewing concerns about flight safety, particularly during training missions over populated zones.
