Update: Second child dies after mushroom poisoning in Rukum East, mother still under treatment

A second child has died following a case of wild mushroom poisoning in Bhume Rural Municipality-5, Serabang. Four members of the same family had fallen ill after eating wild mushrooms on Sunday evening.

7-year-old Bhagyarekha BK, who was undergoing treatment at Rapti Institute of Health Sciences in Ghorahi, died on Tuesday night, according to the District Police Office, Rukum East.

Earlier on Tuesday afternoon, her 3-year-old brother, Yojan BK, died during treatment at Salyan Hospital.

Their 9-year-old sister, Ayusha BK, is in serious condition and has been referred to Dang for further care.

Their mother, 35-year-old Rajkumari BK, is in moderate condition and is currently receiving treatment at the District Hospital in Rukum West.

Health officials have once again warned the public to be cautious about consuming wild mushrooms, especially during the monsoon season.
