Inmate dies by suicide inside Bhairahawa juvenile rehab center

A young inmate at the Lumbini Province-level juvenile Rehab home in Bhairahawa, Rupandehi, died by suicide on Saturday.

According to DSP Ganesh Sapkota of Rupandehi District Police Office, 21-year-old Sandip Gosain, who was still legally considered a juvenile because his case was registered when he was underage, was found hanging inside the correction facility.

The incident took place around 2 PM at the facility located in Siddharthanagar Municipality-7. During a routine headcount, Gosain was discovered hanging from an iron pipe in a third-floor storeroom, using a rope made from coconut fiber.

Gosain, originally from Sammarimai Rural Municipality-4 in Rupandehi, was serving time for a rape conviction. For the past year, he had also been working as a monitor (or ‘naike’) inside the facility, helping with internal supervision.

Police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
