Five people fall sick after eating wild mushrooms in Jumla
Five members of the same family fell sick after eating wild mushrooms in Manisangu, Ward 1 of Guthichaur Rural Municipality, Jumla.
The incident happened around 3 PM on Sunday when they cooked and ate wild mushrooms at home. The affected individuals are 60-year-old Lekhakman Mahatara, 58-year-old Rajkumari Mahatara, 45-year-old Kalpana Rawat, 28-year-old Sapana Mahatara Bista, and 3-year-old child Pujan Bista.
Police Inspector Ashim Hamal said the family got sick after eating mushrooms but are currently being treated and are in normal condition.
They were taken to Karnali Academy of Health Sciences Teaching Hospital in Jumla for treatment. Due to the remote location, they reached the hospital only the next morning (Monday).
Soon after the incident was reported, a police team led by Assistant Inspector Manjit Oli was sent from the Manisangu Police Post to the village.
According to locals, wild mushrooms grow everywhere during the rainy season. Some types are very poisonous, while others are safe to eat.
The District Police Office has advised people to avoid eating wild mushrooms, or to be extremely cautious if they do.
