Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has said that Thailand and Cambodia have agreed to implement an immediate ceasefire.

According to Anwar, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Thailand’s acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai have expressed their willingness for an “immediate ceasefire.”

He said the ceasefire between the two countries would begin at midnight on Monday, local time, without any conditions.

“This is an important first step to reduce tension and restore peace and security,” Anwar added.

The two countries have agreed on three points:

  • An unconditional ceasefire will start from midnight (Malaysia time).
  • Military commanders from both sides will hold an informal meeting at 7 a.m. on Tuesday.
  • A formal meeting of defense mechanisms will take place on August 4 under the leadership of the ASEAN chair.
