A temporary Bailey bridge is under construction at Rasuwagadhi, an important northern border point between Nepal and China. The bridge will replace the Miteri bridge, which was destroyed by a severe flood in the Lhende River on July 8. The Chinese government has started the project to help reopen trade and movement between the two countries.

According to Rup Narayan Poudel, engineer of the Galchhi–Trishuli–Mailung–Syaphrubesi–Rasuwagadhi road project, the Bailey bridge is being built two metres east of the original site to protect the historical and archaeological value of Rasuwagadhi fort. This temporary bridge will also prepare the area for a permanent bridge in the future.

Work on the Chinese side, including ground and road levelling, has already been completed, while the Nepali side has finished site preparation.

Arjun Poudel, Chief District Officer of Rasuwa, said the Bailey bridge is expected to be ready by September 15. The bridge will provide relief to local residents, traders, and cross-border travellers.

Meanwhile, repair work is ongoing on the Syaphrubesi–Rasuwagadhi road, which was damaged during the Bhotekoshi River floods on June 28. The flood affected 18 points along the road, including Ghattekhola, Tatopani, Kalyangkulung, and Lingling.

Engineer Poudel confirmed that reconstruction is already finished at two sites in Timure, while repairs continue in Tatopani. The goal is to reopen the route for two-way traffic as soon as possible.
