Surrounded by towering mountains, Jalpatal in Baglung district is a serene and picturesque lake with calm, clear waters at its center. Colorful flowers around the lake add to its charm, creating a peaceful and beautiful environment.

The lake sits at 4,400 meters above sea level in Dhorpatan Municipality-9 and remains largely unknown despite its scenic beauty. It lies on the border of Baglung and Rukum East, with lush pastures surrounding the area. During the rainy season, these highlands are used by shepherds for grazing, but tourists have rarely reached the lake.

Jalpatal can be accessed on foot in about two days from Dhorpatan Valley. The trail passes through Pakhathar, Garpacheda, Furse Deurali, and Falgun. Despite its natural allure, the lake remains off the beaten path due to the lack of proper trails and visitor facilities.

The surrounding hills, rising on three sides of the lake, add to the dramatic scenery but are also prone to erosion, which could threaten the lake’s size in the future. Its pristine waters, colorful flora, and high-altitude setting make Jalpatal a hidden gem with the potential to become one of Nepal’s most attractive trekking and tourism destinations.
