A week-long vaccination campaign against lumpy skin disease has covered over 96,000 cows and buffaloes in Bagmati Province.
The campaign started on August 17 (Bhadra 1) across 13 districts of the province. According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, a total of 96,347 animals were vaccinated. The target was 120,000, but only 80.29 percent of the goal was achieved.
Among the districts, Makawanpur recorded the highest number with 24,695 doses given, while Lalitpur had the lowest with only 3,609 out of the 10,000 doses supplied. Chitwan, which has the highest number of cattle and buffalo in the province, received 30,000 doses but only used 6,000. Officials said many large farms in Chitwan purchased vaccines themselves, which reduced the campaign numbers.
Chitwan alone has more than 92,000 cows and 72,000 buffaloes, producing around 95,148 metric tons of milk annually, making it the top dairy district in Bagmati.
Across the province, there are 694,217 cows and 549,182 buffaloes in 119 local levels, with annual milk production reaching 481,771 metric tons.
