After several days of clashes at the border, Cambodia and Thailand have agreed to a ceasefire. On Sunday, leaders from both countries issued statements announcing the end of fighting.
U.S. President Donald Trump also confirmed the ceasefire. Earlier in the week, he had said that he met with leaders from both sides to help bring peace.
Trump had warned that if the conflict continued, countries involved could face trade restrictions. At the beginning of the month, he had also threatened to impose a 36% tax on goods from Thailand and Cambodia starting August 1.
On Sunday morning, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet released a statement saying his country was ready for peace and thanked President Trump for his efforts. He also acknowledged the role of Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, who is currently leading ASEAN, in helping with the peace process.
