The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) will hold its board meeting on Thursday, July 31. The meeting will mainly focus on reviewing the first edition of the Nepal Premier League (NPL) and planning for the second edition. It will also discuss Nepal’s journey towards the ICC T20 World Cup.
CAN spokesperson Chhumbi Lama told Media that the two main topics are the NPL and the national team’s World Cup campaign. “The main agenda will be about the NPL and how the national team is preparing for the T20 World Cup,” Lama said.
The first NPL season was held during Mangsir and Poush (Nov–Jan). The board will review its achievements and talk about improvements for the second season, which already has a set auction date.
CAN President Chatur Bahadur Chand had earlier mentioned that the upcoming meeting will also look into making the financial report of the first NPL public. Several board members had raised concerns about the lack of transparency, even writing a letter to the president demanding accountability.
Chand has said he took the suggestions seriously and admitted there may have been some procedural mistakes, but he is committed to improving the process moving forward.
The board will also talk about Nepal’s preparation for the T20 World Cup Asia and East Asia-Pacific Regional Final, which is scheduled for October. While some players are currently training in India, others are practicing in Nepal.
Another major point of discussion will be Nepal’s historic T20I series against the West Indies, set for September.
The board will also review CAN’s annual calendar, assessing what has been achieved so far and what should be added for the upcoming year.
