A case of cholera has been confirmed in Bara district.

According to Ram Naresh Yadav, chief of the District Health Office Bara, the infection was confirmed in a 55-year-old man from Pachoura, Kalaiya-18, who was admitted to Kalaiya Hospital with diarrhea on Wednesday.

The man had been working in Birgunj, Parsa, where cholera has already spread, and was traveling back and forth from his home. On Sunday, he suddenly developed diarrhea and was taken to the hospital, where tests confirmed cholera.

Yadav said health workers have been sent to his village to check if others are showing symptoms of diarrhea. Teams are also raising awareness about diarrhea and cholera prevention.

Health authorities have increased monitoring in Bara’s municipalities bordering Birgunj, including Bishrampur, Parsauni, Parwanipur, and Pheta.

Yadav added that a single confirmed case is not a reason for panic, but close monitoring is necessary.

Meanwhile, in neighboring Parsa, cholera cases have spread from Birgunj to Pokhariya. On Tuesday, three out of five patients with diarrhea symptoms at Pokhariya Hospital tested positive for cholera.
