Dr. Keshav Shrestha, who had gone missing earlier today after posting a lengthy status on Facebook with the word “Goodbye,” has been found safe.
A team from Kathmandu Metropolitan Police located him at Shreenath Boutique Resort in Tarkeshwor Municipality-3. SSP Bhishma Adhikari confirmed that Dr. Shrestha has been brought to the police office in Bhadrakali for further discussions.
Earlier in the day, police had intensified the search after he became unreachable following his emotional Facebook post.
In the post, Dr. Shrestha said he was transferred from Ramechhap District Hospital to Hetauda due to political influence and false allegations. He believed the transfer was part of a larger conspiracy and personal revenge, despite his efforts to improve the hospital’s services.
He had served as the hospital chief for 18 of his 25 months of government service and claimed to have faced resistance from some staff members and local leaders who didn’t want change. Dr. Shrestha said that while he was pushing for reforms and discipline, some employees and politicians worked against him.
He accused local leader Kedar Karki of threatening him and making improper demands, such as using hospital funds to pay hotel bills. He said he was warned he’d be transferred if he didn’t comply.
Dr. Shrestha also alleged that he was transferred suddenly, without a fair hearing, even while an investigation was ongoing. After reaching Hetauda, he claimed he was forced to return to Ramechhap with no valid explanation, despite medical issues and family difficulties.
In the post, he mentioned going through severe mental stress and even hinted at thoughts of suicide. He expressed disappointment that instead of being appreciated for improving the hospital, he was punished.
“I had dreams of doing something meaningful in Nepal,” he wrote, “but now I feel nothing but regret.”
Authorities are continuing to assess his condition and are expected to take further steps based on his mental and emotional well-being.
