Itahari protest: Two killed after police open fire

Two people died in Itahari, Sunsari after police opened fire during protests.

The protest was against the social media ban and corruption, but it turned violent, leading police to shoot. According to hospital sources, two men aged around 25 and 30 were killed. Their identities have not been confirmed.

Police said that those who were shot and seriously injured were taken to BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan, where doctors declared them dead.

Chief District Officer of Sunsari, Dharmendra Kumar Mishra, said police fired shots after protesters threw stones at the Itahari Area Police Office. Some injured people are still under treatment, and their deaths have not yet been officially confirmed.

Earlier, young protesters set fire to the Itahari Sub-Metropolitan Office while demonstrating against the government and the social media ban. Police arrested some youths involved in the arson, after which the protesters started stone-pelting.
