In the last fiscal year, Karnali Province exported 365 metric tonnes of dried ginger and turmeric to Europe, the Ministry of Land Management, Agriculture and Cooperatives in the province reported.
Agricultural Development Officer Purna Bahadur Thapa said the locally grown ginger and turmeric are processed and certified according to international standards before being sent abroad, including to Germany.
Ginger is mainly produced in Salyan, Rukum (Paschim), and eastern Surkhet, while turmeric is grown in the Chinchu area of Surkhet district. Thapa added that Organic Valley collects these products from local farmers and handles the exports.
Besides ginger and turmeric, the company also exports other organic products such as corn flour, lentils, beans, and nettle leaf powder.
Since the province was formed, over Rs 18.47 billion has been allocated to agriculture, with more than Rs 14 billion already invested, according to the Ministry.
