An Indian citizen was killed by his own employer in Nhyokha, Kathmandu, police have confirmed.

The victim has been identified as 54-year-old Subrata Pal from West Bengal, India. Police have arrested 42-year-old Shyam Kalikote of Kakani Rural Municipality-8, Nuwakot, for the murder.

According to SP Kaji Kumar Acharya, spokesperson for the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office, the murder took place after a personal dispute. Kalikote reportedly said he was angry because Pal, despite being his employee, disrespected and insulted him.

Kalikote owns a jewelry shop where Pal worked as a goldsmith. On the night of the incident 29 July (Shrawan 13), the two had been drinking and later went to sleep at Pal’s rented room on the third floor of Bishnubhakta Shrestha’s house in Nhyokha.

During the night, Kalikote confronted Pal for insulting him. The argument escalated, and at around 2:45 AM on Shrawan 14 (30 July), Kalikote killed Pal using a nearby hammer.

After committing the crime, Kalikote fled the scene. He was later arrested by a joint team from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office and Kathmandu District Police from Rishikesh Guest House in New Bus Park, operated by Bipin Shrestha.
