A man has been arrested in Kathmandu for allegedly removing meat and bones from a body before it was cremated at Pashupati Aryaghat.
Police said the arrested person is a Brahmin who works at Aryaghat performing cremation rituals. He is being held at the Gaushala Police Circle for investigation, according to Kathmandu Police spokesperson SP Kuldeep Chand.
The body belonged to Ram Shahi from Banepa Municipality-9, Kavre. Family members accused the Brahmin of taking meat and bones from Shahi’s body and filed a complaint with the police.
Police have started an investigation. The family also alleged that the meat and bones were sold, but it is still unclear who bought them or at what price. Police said there is currently no strong evidence to fully confirm the accusations.
