RAUTAHAT, NEPAL – A man suspected of murdering a woman whose body was found in a suitcase has confessed to the crime in a video posted on Facebook before setting himself on fire, according to local police.
The suspect, identified as Laxman Paswan, was found with severe burn injuries in front of a canal in Madhav Narayan Municipality-6. He was taken into custody by police and transported to a hospital for treatment.
The victim, 26-year-old Ruby Sah, a resident of Madhav Narayan Municipality-2, was found dead inside a suitcase on a road in Gaur on a Saturday night. Her family lives in Madhavpur, and she was married to a man from India’s Muzaffarpur. Sah had been living in a rented room in Gaur to provide education for her 4-year-old son.
According to a video shared on social media, Paswan admitted to killing Sah. He stated that his hands had been shaking since the murder and that he saw no reason to live now that his “life,” referring to Sah, was gone. He also said he did not want to go to jail for 10 to 15 years.
In the video, Paswan claimed he and Sah had been in a relationship since their school days and had even married in court. He alleged that he killed her due to family problems stemming from his poverty. He said that before the murder, they had a conversation about not being able to live without each other.
Initial police investigations suggest that Sah was killed in a house in Gaur before her body was placed in a suitcase and transported by a rickshaw to be disposed of on the roadside. The District Police Office, Rautahat, is continuing to investigate the case.
