Nepal’s national cricket team returned home on Sunday after completing a month-long tour of the UK and Scotland. This tour marked a significant improvement for the team, especially in the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2.

Nepal performed well in the difficult conditions of Scotland, defeating strong teams like the Netherlands and hosts Scotland. Out of four League 2 matches, Nepal won three — including two against the Netherlands and one historic win against Scotland, losing the other by just 2 runs.

This marked Nepal’s return to form in ODI cricket, showing strong batting improvements and better team coordination. The arrival of new coach Stuart Law brought a positive mindset and structured gameplay, earning praise from both players and fans.

Captain Rohit Paudel and players like Karan KC and Kushal Bhurtel highlighted the importance of this tour, saying it helped build confidence for future matches. Bhurtel called the wins over European teams a major achievement, especially in tough playing conditions.

Rise of New Talents

Nepal also played a T20I series after the League 2 matches, winning 2 out of 4 games. Despite some close defeats — including three super overs against the Netherlands — new players like Rupesh Singh and Kiran Thagunna got the chance to debut. Rupesh, in particular, impressed as an all-rounder.

Nandan Yadav also showed great potential with both bat and ball, even forcing a super over with a last-ball boundary in one match. His consistent performances suggest he could become a regular in both ODI and T20 formats.

Focus Shifts to T20 World Cup

With no immediate ODI fixtures, Nepal will now prepare for the T20 World Cup Asia Qualifiers, set to be held in Oman this October. Leading up to that, the team will participate in training camps in Sri Lanka and India, as well as play warm-up matches in Australia.

In September, Nepal will play a historic T20I series against two-time World Champions West Indies in the UAE. Players are excited for the opportunity, calling it a big step forward for Nepal cricket.

Coach Stuart Law has already set qualification for the 2026 T20 World Cup as Nepal’s main goal. The team’s renewed confidence and improved gameplay hint at a promising future.
