More than 100 vehicles are believed to have been swept away by flooding in the Rasuwagadhi customs and under-construction Timure dry port area, according to early estimates.
Ashish Gajurel, Executive Director of the Nepal Intermodal Transport Development Board, said most of the affected vehicles were carrying goods. Some electric vehicles (EVs) parked farther from the flood zone are thought to have suffered less damage.
“The exact number of vehicles and details of the damage will be confirmed later, but initial estimates suggest over 100 vehicles were washed away,” Gajurel stated. He added that there were 230 vehicles parked in the yard, and some were reportedly moved to higher ground during the night.
“Damage assessment is currently ongoing at the site. A clearer picture will emerge once that is complete,” he said.
Karan Chaudhary, president of the NADA Automobiles Association, also noted that the exact number and brands of vehicles affected by the flood are still unknown. “We are collecting data and coordinating with the government,” he said.
