At least 32 people have died in northern India due to landslides and floods caused by continuous heavy rainfall in the past 24 hours.
The floods have affected several states including Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Mizoram, and Arunachal Pradesh. In Assam alone, 9 people have lost their lives, and the government there has declared that 18 districts are affected by the floods. People in hilly areas have been asked to stay alert as many places are at risk.
Guwahati and Tezpur received record levels of rainfall. In Arunachal Pradesh, 7 people from two families died when a car slipped off the road during a landslide. In Meghalaya, 7 people, including 3 children, lost their lives. Continuous rain has been reported in Cherrapunji, one of the wettest places in the world.
In Nagaland, a young man died after being hit by a falling rock on the road. In Mizoram, 7 people died within 24 hours due to flood-related incidents.
