The family of Samjhana Bhatta from Beldandi Rural Municipality-2, Sinhapal, Kanchanpur, has demanded a full investigation and legal action against those responsible for her death.

Samjhana, who had been living in Mahendranagar, Bhimdatta Municipality-6, was found hanging inside her home on Sunday morning. Her family believes the circumstances of her death are suspicious.

According to her father Bhojraj Bhatta, Samjhana faced repeated mental stress and pressure from her in-laws after marriage. He said that just a day before her death, police from Beldandi Area Police Office had tried to mediate a dispute between Samjhana and her husband Pawan.

Her family suspects foul play because they found bruises and injuries on her body, which made them believe she was forced to die.

“She was mentally harassed many times after marriage,” her father said. “She often told us about it. On Saturday, she tried to come to our house but didn’t have even 1,000 rupees with her. Police came that morning to calm things down, but still, she didn’t survive.”

Samjhana was studying in grade 12 under the Law faculty. Her sudden death has left her family in deep sorrow.

Her body is currently at Mahakali Hospital for post-mortem. Her husband Pawan Bhatta is in police custody.

Kanchanpur police spokesperson Sagar Bohora said the investigation is ongoing. Samjhana and Pawan had a love marriage just a few months ago, in the Nepali month of Fagun.
