Sankhuwasabha’s district hospital is seeing an increase in patients infected with scrub typhus and dengue.

Hospital spokesperson Sumitra Sapkota said the number of patients has risen so much that there are not enough beds, forcing some patients to be treated in hallways and passages. Since Baishakh (May), the hospital has recorded 214 cases of scrub typhus and 56 cases of dengue, along with 117 cases of viral fever.

Scrub typhus is caused by bites from infected mites. People infected may experience symptoms like headache, high fever, fine rashes around the neck and throat, sweating, and swollen glands.

Health officials are urging people to take precautions, avoid areas with tall grass or bushes, and seek medical care immediately if symptoms appear, to prevent severe complications.
