South Korean star Son Heung-min had joy in his eyes.

He kissed the trophy, lifted it high, and celebrated proudly with his teammates. Tottenham defeated Manchester United 1–0 to win the Europa League title. For Son, this was a dream he had waited for many years to achieve.

“I really wanted this trophy. That’s why I felt pressure before the game. I had been dreaming about this match every night for the past week. Now the dream has come true. I can finally sleep peacefully,” Son said.

Just a few weeks ago, Son had congratulated his old teammate Harry Kane for winning his first trophy with Bayern Munich. Kane had left Tottenham to join the German club. But Son stayed at Tottenham and won a title with them. This is Tottenham’s first trophy since 2008.

“With what happened today, I think I can call myself a legend,” Son said with a smile. “In 17 years, no one could do this. Today, I can say – I am a legend. This is the day my lifelong dream came true.”

Son is the only player from the 2019 Tottenham team that lost the Champions League final to Liverpool who is still with the club. At that time, he and Kane were known as one of the best attacking pairs in the Premier League.

Son returned from injury and came onto the field in the 67th minute. After the match, he celebrated with great joy, wrapping himself in the South Korean flag. He also showed respect to the fans in the stands.

This season had been difficult for Tottenham. They were in 17th place in the Premier League, and their hopes for European football were nearly gone. So, they had to win the Europa League to secure a place in the next Champions League. That made the victory even more important.

For Son, this win was not just personal — it was one of the most unforgettable moments in Tottenham’s history.

“There were hard times during the season, but we kept fighting,” said 32-year-old Son. “The younger players stepped up in a big way. I always tried to stay positive and give them advice. I’m very lucky to be part of this amazing team.”
