An 18-year-old girl was shot and killed in Harinagar Rural Municipality-6, Sunsari district.
The incident happened around 1 a.m. on Sunday night in Ghuskee area. The victim has been identified as Arshi Khatun.
According to Sunsari Police Chief SP Suman Kumar Timalsina, early investigation shows that the girl was shot by her own brother-in-law.
The accused, 29-year-old Ajat Miya Jat from Ghurana, Ward-16 of Paraha Panchayat, India, reportedly shot Arshi in the head. She died on the spot. A bullet shell was found at the scene.
After the shooting, Ajat Miya ran away and is currently on the run. Police say they are searching for him.
The reason behind the shooting is still unknown. The location of the incident is close to the Nepal-India border.
